As the last step, please reboot your phone after you've made your selection. You'll know when you've picked the right selection because the 5G icon should immediately disappear and turn into an LTE or 4GLTE icon. It should start with the word "LTE." Pay attention to your Status Bar up top when you make your changes. The very first option at the top of the list is more than likely your phone's default preferred network. You will see a long list of technical names for different networks. Scroll down to "Set Preferred Network Type" and tap on it. It will now open up your phone's default info page. You should now see "Phone Info (RadioInfo)" listed at the top of the page. Open the app and type "Phone Info" inside the search bar.

Install Hidden Settings for Android app from the Google Play Store. Choose " LTE/3G/2G" and reboot your phone.Ģ) Second Solution: Access Android's Hidden Settings Once the phone has rebooted into Safe Mode, please go to Settings> Network & Internet> Mobile Network> Preferred Network Type. Hold down Power key and long press the Power option. However, there appears to be at least two workaround solutions. There are multiple complaints about this online.

My question is, is there a software shortcut to "wake up" the phone and make it scan for networks again? -or perhaps a way to tell the phone to continually scan for better networks whenever signal is poor?Īfter doing some research, it appears that Google Fi intentionally disables the "Preferred Network Type" menu.

If I restart my phone, I'll get full bars and 5G connectivity, standing in the exact same spot. After driving from one city to another, I'll get out of my vehicle and find I have 0 bars and I'm offline. My phone doesn't like switching networks sometimes. I have a long commute, nearly 40 miles each way. My questions may be better asked of the Google Fi community, but since it might be a hardware trick, I thought I'd ask here first.ĭo both models of the One 5G Ace have the same connectivity bands? -or did the "made for Google Fi" model have a different radio? I bought the silver one with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Google used to sell a black One 5G Ace model with only 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, but I bought mine directly from the Motorola website. I'm using my One 5G Ace on the Google Fi network.
